Redwood Shores, CA (Feb 14, 2008) – Ipera Technology, Inc. announced today demonstrations of the benefits of porting its revolutionary Pixel Magic CE Video Enhancement Technology to Texas Instruments Inc.’s (TI’s) TMS320DM6446 digital video system-on-chip (SoC) processor. The demonstrations will be given during the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, February 11-15, at Ipera’s GSMA Booth #7A62. Visitors to the booth will see first-hand how Pixel Magic combines with TI’s DaVinci processor to deliver dramatically improved video quality at exceptionally low power requirements.

Designed to meet the networked media encode and decode application processing needs of embedded devices, the high performance of the DM6446 digital media processor and Pixel Magic are ideal for multiple-source video and recording systems ranging from DVD recorders and DVRs to personal media players (PMPs), surveillance systems and streaming video set-top-boxes.

“Consumers are demanding high-quality video on their devices, including small screen portable players,” said Greg Mar, worldwide manager, DaVinci technology products, Texas Instruments. “With TI’s DaVinci technology and Ipera’s Pixel Magic, consumers will benefit from improved image quality on such applications to provide an overall enhanced viewing experience.” Pier Del Frate, Ipera vice president of marketing, credited the engineers of both companies for their collaboration in making the demonstration possible. “Both companies are focused on delivering next-generation products that are cost-effective, require very little power and are easy to integrate, so combining our technologies works very, very well.”

Ipera’s new patent-pending core technology solves quality issues in video applications by reducing and/or totally eliminating distortions generated by various types of codecs, as well as noise and imperfections inherent in sensors and LCD displays. In particular, Pixel Magic includes contrast and brightness enhancement, skin tone and color enhancement and correction, edge and detail enhancement and video signal boosting tailored specifically for LCD displays.

Pixel Magic CE is efficient, highly flexible and very easy to integrate. It can run on either the ARM or DSP core present in the DM6446 processor. When running on the TMS320C64x™ DSP core, it delivers D1 (720×480) resolution video at 30 fps and will soon be able to handle HD content using as little as 600MHz. If run on the ARM926EJ-S core, it can provide enhanced video to quarter VGA resolution (QVGA) video using 150 MHz.

In addition to delivering exceptionally realistic per-pixel video quality at extremely low power consumption for virtually any video codec and any video application, Pixel Magic CE can also be easily adapted to support future formats and other processor platforms. Streaming video providers, mobile OEMs and IC vendors who adopt Pixel Magic technology will find they can improve the video quality of their mobile video content, entertainment and communications devices without increasing their cost when new technologies emerge. Ipera Pixel Magic is compatible with all video codec formats, including H.264, VC1, DivX®, MPEG-1/2/4, H.263, WMV, FLV, raw video and any future format. It currently runs on DaVinci, ARM and X86 architectures and can be easily expanded to others.

Availability Requiring as little as 100 Kbytes of storage, Pixel Magic can run under Linux as well as Windows CE, XP and Vista. Ipera licenses its core technology as PC software, as embedded software for portable consumer devices powered by DSP or microprocessors, and as SoC solutions for IC companies.
